How can you safeguard your business if you’re not sure which parts are (and aren’t) currently protected?
Today, more than ever, innovation is at the heart of a business’ future but do you know which parts of your business’ innovation are protected, unprotected or no longer need protection?
Protecting every aspect of your IP is a crucial step towards ensuring your future success. However, if your IP is going to generate the highest commercial impact, you need to be able to articulate what IP you have and what that IP does for your business.
Our unique and proprietary IP Audit has been designed to do exactly that.
We will help you map your existing IP protection to the list of products and services you currently offer. This simple process will not only confirm you have the right protection in place to achieve your commercial objectives, but it will also identify any gaps and any redundant IP rights so that you can formulate a more practical, relevant and cost-effective IP strategy going forward.
What is an IP Audit?
The process itself is simple.
First we list out all of your commercial products, then we map your existing IP to that list. This initial step is, first and foremost, a reassurance exercise to show you how well protected you are.
Next we identify any IP that does not correspond to your current commercial products. If we do find any rights (patents, trade marks or designs) that do not correspond to a current product, we will investigate whether those rights are redundant or whether they still serve a purpose. Even losing two or three of these redundant rights could save you significant ongoing costs.
We then identify any gaps. If there are products or ideas that are currently unprotected we will advise whether you should file for new applications so that they are fully protected going forward.
Once we have all of this information we will formulate an explicit IP strategy with you. This practical action plan will recommend a filing strategy, any new applications and suggestions as to where your portfolio (and, therefore, budget) could be rationalised.
We will also set out all of the associated costs for each recommendation so that you have all of the information necessary for the decisions you will then need to make.
