Alan graduated from University College London with a first class Master’s Degree in Physics. He also holds the postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary, University of London.

Alan is part qualified, and is working towards full qualification as a UK and European patent attorney.
Alan works with clients to help obtain and maintain valuable intellectual property to protect their innovations. His work involves drafting and prosecuting UK, European and foreign patent applications for clients ranging from start-ups and individual inventors to international corporations. He also has experience in conducting freedom-to-operate and validity assessments, as well as in obtaining registered design protection in the UK and Europe.
During his time at university, Alan carried out several experimental projects in the field of atomic physics, developing chip-based decelerators for highly excited atoms and molecules, and in the field of thin film technology, investigating novel methods for the growth and characterisation of ferroelectric films. He has also worked on biological applications of quantum phenomena.
His experience in both academic and industry-focused research helps him to engage with clients and understand technical concepts in a wide variety of subject areas. Examples of technology areas include photonics, telecoms, consumer electronics, medical devices and biochemical engineering. Alan enjoys grasping the technical and commercial goals of a business to tailor his IP advice and services to his clients’ objectives.
In his spare time Alan is a keen photographer and particularly enjoys processing film.
