Kessia Hawkins

Trainee Patent Attorney


Kessia has a first class degree in Neuroscience from the University of Leeds, where she also undertook an industrial placement year at MedImmune (AstraZeneca). Kessia then went on to complete her PhD at King’s College London, also in Neuroscience, where her doctoral work focused on the importance of peripheral mediators in chronic pain states.

Career History

Kessia joined GJE in September 2018.

Kessia is a trainee patent attorney, working towards full qualification as a UK and European patent attorney. Kessia works on a wide variety of subject areas in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical fields.

Main specialisms
Kessia has particular experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the subject areas of:
• immunology
• oncology
• diagnostic assays
• vaccines
• cell biology.

Kessia works with a variety of clients, both in the UK and further afield, ranging from small start-ups through to large multinational pharmaceutical companies.

In her spare time, Kessia loves traveling and exploring new places. With the help of her Sproodle puppy, Betty, Kessia also enjoys staying active and taking long walks in the countryside.
