He is often asked for second opinions on high profile patent issues and to take on cases post grant at the European Patent Office. He regularly appears at the EPO before the various opposition and appeal boards and, on a number of occasions, before the Enlarged Board of Appeal. In the UK, he has been involved in several major patent litigation matters while also coordinating multi-jurisdictional litigation within Europe.
He handles work covering a wide variety of technology areas, particularly in the telecommunications field including mobile telephony and networks, as well as computer hardware and software, Internet technology, image processing, and database structures and applications. In addition he has built up considerable experience in other fields including printing, document security, holography, process solutions, joining technologies and undersea surveying techniques and equipment which have particular application in the oil & gas sector.
Robert believes in regularly meeting with clients and inventors to gain first-hand knowledge of a client’s business to enable him to advise clients fully on the strategy they should adopt when considering the protection and enforcement of their IP. To that end, he frequently visits clients in the UK and overseas. The US and Japan, where Robert has many clients, are destinations he particularly enjoys visiting.
For relaxation, he plays violin in a number of groups and orchestras in and around London.
