Stuart graduated with a first class honours degree in Aerospace Engineering from Kingston University. He was awarded the Royal Aeronautical Society prize for most distinguished student of the year and the British Aerospace prize for outstanding project work.

He also holds the postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary College, University of London, as well as the Intellectual Property Litigation Certificate.

Although no longer flying, Stuart remains the holder of a private pilot’s licence.

Career History

Stuart joined Gill Jennings & Every in 2014, having trained at another top tier London firm of patent and trade mark attorneys and worked in-house in the intellectual property department at Rolls-Royce.

He entered the patent profession after a successful engineering career in the commercial and defence aerospace industries.

Stuart held senior engineering positions at Astrium/Airbus and DERA/QinetiQ, where he undertook challenging projects for prestigious client organisations including the UK Ministry of Defence, the US Department of Defense, the US Air Force, the European Space Agency (ESA), Rolls-Royce, Airbus and Boeing.

During his years in industry, Stuart gained particular technical capability in satellite propulsion and was the lead industrial engineer responsible for the propulsion systems of ESA’s Mars Express and Venus Express spacecraft.

Stuart is a Chartered & European Patent Attorney, who drafts and prosecutes UK, European and foreign patent applications on behalf of clients, mostly in the engineering sector. He has experience in oppositions and appeals at the European Patent Office, infringement and validity opinions, freedom-to-operate, and patent revocation actions.

Outside of the office, Stuart is a keen equestrian and can usually be found on a horse somewhere in the countryside.
