Trainee Patent Attorney

Sam is a trainee patent attorney in the IT & engineering department, working towards becoming a qualified attorney. He is involved in the drafting and prosecution of European and UK patent applications for clients ranging from start-ups to large multinational corporations.

Sam is an experienced pole vaulter and outside of the office he enjoys keeping up-to-date on all things athletics. He is also an avid live music fan and can often be found securing a last-minute ticket to a gig.

While Sam has worked across a broad range of technology across the scope of the IT and engineering department, he has particular experience with:

  • Machine learning
  • Software and database systems
  • Electronics

Sam graduated from Durham University with a first class degree in physics. In his final year he undertook a group project designing and building a space situational awareness system for a leading defence company. Additionally, his dissertation was on the topic of stellar radiation and its impact on biochemical processes in exoplanetary atmospheres.

Sam joined GJE in September 2024.
