Jay Ruaux

Trainee Patent Attorney

Jay is a trainee patent attorney in the IT & Engineering group. Since he joined the profession in 2022, Jay has gained experience in patent drafting and prosecution at the UKIPO, EPO and various national patent offices; filing registered designs; and IP portfolio management. With a background in general engineering and manufacturing, Jay has the versatility to handle a wide range of technical fields.

Jay has worked with universities, multinationals, SMEs and sole inventors across the UK, Europe, USA and further afield, giving him an appreciation of the different priorities clients have regarding their intellectual property. Clients include household names in banking and telecoms, UK universities, and industry leaders in the energy sector.

Outside of work, Jay enjoys photography and the arts. He is also a keen hiker, runner and cyclist.

Jay has a range of knowledge and experience across the field of engineering. Particular specialisms include:

  • deep sea flexible pipes

Jay graduated with a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Cambridge in 2021. His master’s project, in collaboration with a multinational glass manufacturer, involved developing novel manufacturing processes for the late-stage customisation of curved glass with printed circuits.

Prior to joining Gill Jennings & Every in 2025, Jay spent three years training as a patent attorney at a firm in the North of England. He is currently working towards qualification as a UK and European patent attorney.
