Philippa Makepeace

Philippa is a UK and European patent attorney in our chemistry & life sciences group, with a primary focus in the field of chemical innovation and materials. She works with clients across a wide range of technologies, having a particular interest in the advancement and protection of sustainable technologies.

Philippa enjoys supporting clients as they develop and scale their technologies, helping them to build effective intellectual property strategies that align with their commercial objectives. She works closely with a range of innovation networks and accelerators and has extensive experience advising early-stage businesses.

Philippa’s practice spans all aspects of patent work, including drafting and filing patent applications, managing global patent portfolios, and handling opposition and appeal proceedings. She is committed to providing pragmatic, tailored advice that supports innovation and business growth.

Philippa graduated from the University of Oxford with a master’s degree in chemistry.

Prior to joining GJE in 2017, Philippa worked at another leading firm of patent attorneys for the first three years of her training. She was promoted to senior associate in January 2025.
