Daniel Kelly

Trainee Patent Attorney

Daniel is a Trainee Patent Attorney in the IT & Engineering department, working towards full qualification. He works in drafting and prosecution of European and UK patent applications for clients across the world.

Daniel works with a broad range of clients including large multinational companies, SMEs, start-ups, as well as private inventors in the UK, Europe and further afield.

Outside of work, he enjoys learning languages and speaks French, Russian, and conversational Japanese. He has a strong interest in Japanese culture and technology, and has travelled to Japan a number of times. He also plays the piano and enjoys ballroom dancing.

Daniel’s areas of expertise include condensed matter, photonics and telecommunications. Some examples include:

Daniel graduated from Durham University with a first-class Masters degree in Natural Sciences (physics and mathematics). Following his degree, he studied for a PhD at Glasgow University, specialising in lithium niobate integrated photonics. Daniel joined GJE in September 2025.
