Senior Associate

Denise has been working in the IP profession for over 10 years and is a qualified European, German and Swiss patent attorney. The focus of her work is on assisting clients in the pharma and biotech sectors.

Clients rely on Denise for clear, grounded guidance and IP strategies built around real-world business goals, underpinned by rigorous analysis and deep scientific expertise. In addition to patent drafting and prosecution, she has undertaken complex FTO and due diligence projects, and led opposition and appeal proceedings before the EPO.

Denise works with a diverse range of clients ranging from university spin-offs and start-ups to multinationals and everything in between. She advises both European companies and also has significant experience with Asian clients. She is a fluent Mandarin speaker alongside English, French and her native German, and regularly travels to China where she has spoken at professional conferences on IP.

Denise also advises clients on trade mark and designs matters, including prosecution, oppositions and invalidation actions before the EUIPO, the DPMA (German Patent and Trade Mark Office) and IGE (Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property).

In her spare time, Denise likes learning languages (currently Japanese) and putting them to good use while travelling. She is also an avid ballet dancer.

Denise’s areas of specialism are in the pharma and biotech fields. She has particular experience in:

  • Pharmaceutical compositions and drug repurposing
  • Dosage regimens, combination therapies and companion diagnostics
  • Diagnostic methods and assays
  • DNA and RNA-based technology
  • Microbiology and cell culture-related invention, including engineered strains and cell therapy

Denise completed her training at an IP boutique firm in Munich and qualified as German and European Patent Attorney in 2019. Before joining Gill Jennings & Every, she worked at a large European IP firm.

Denise graduated from The Technical University of Munich with a master’s degree in molecular biotechnology. She obtained a PhD from the same institute, focusing on gene editing technologies such as TALENs and CRISPR/Cas.
