Julia Hornig is a German and European qualified Patent Attorney. She has experience in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications before the EPO on a range of subject matter across the fields of biotechnology, in particular, molecular biology, cellular biology, and immunology. Julia also deals with proceedings before the German Trademark and Patent Office (GTPO), working closely with the GJE Munich Office. Julia has also obtained the Postgraduate Certificate in IP from Bournemouth University and is currently in the process of becoming a UK Chartered Patent Attorney.

In her spare time, Julia likes to swim, including open water swimming, enjoys traveling and the outdoors (with her dog Laika).

Julia’s areas of technical specialism are mainly in the fields of molecular biology and immunology. Her areas of specialisms within the biotechnology sector are:

Julia Hornig received her degree in Human Biology from the University of Toronto. She then went on to receive a MSc with distinction from Imperial College in Virology and stayed on to complete her PhD in Immunology, studying the combined effect of vitamins and human dendritic cells on the homing phenotype of T cells in the context of HIV vaccine.

Julia qualified as a German Patent Attorney in 2021. She joined GJE in 2022, having begun her career in 2017 at another international law firm in Munich. Julia is currently working towards her qualification as a UK Patent Attorney, having qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2024.
