Alistair graduated from the University of Bristol with a Masters Degree in Physics. He also holds a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from Queen Mary College, University of London.
Alistair qualified as both a Chartered and European Patent Attorney and as a Design Attorney in 2015. Alistair joined the firm as a trainee in 2014.
Prior to Gill Jennings & Every, Alistair worked for another leading private practice firm from 2011.
Alistair works with clients over a range of technologies in the fields of engineering, electronics and software fields. This includes advising on innovations involving medical, mechanical, electrical and computer technology aspects. In providing this advice, Alistair has a focus on drafting and prosecuting patents and designs from filing to grant and beyond.
Alistair’s areas of specialism are mainly in the mechanical, electronics and computer technology fields. While working with a diverse range of clients, Alistair focuses on advising start-ups and SMEs on IP strategy and how to tailor their IP to a business plan, making sure IP complements business strengths and can be used to enhance the growth of a business. Alistair has built direct experience over a number of years with various technologies and innovations, including in:

• Hydroponic growth systems

• Musical instrument digital interfaces
Alistair also performs specialist work in relation to designs (registered and unregistered). This includes:
Alistair works with a wide range of clients including large multinational companies, SMEs, start-ups and private inventors in the UK, Europe and further afield. Notable clients include a leading mineral wool supplier, a well-known provider of diagnostics technologies, and listed companies in the cryogenics and music and audio products spaces.
Alistair has successfully obtained grant of patents protecting products with multi-million sales values, including for a best-selling toy, and has played a key role in the IP due diligence on a company acquisition worth tens of millions of pounds. Additionally, he has experience in handling a number of design invalidity proceedings, with Alistair’s advice also often being sought out on design filing strategy to identify the most suitable scope of protection to pursue.
