Chris graduated from the University of Sheffield with an Honours degree in Physics.

Career History

Chris joined GJE as a trainee in 2013. He qualified as a European patent attorney in 2017 and a Chartered UK patent attorney in 2018, being promoted to associate in 2017 and to senior associate in 2021.

Chris is a Chartered & European Patent Attorney and UK design attorney in our IT & Engineering department. The bulk of Chris’s work is in patents, and he is experienced in patent drafting and prosecution, as well as having a wealth of experience in patent opposition and other contentious matters. Chris is also a leading member of our designs team, and is known for advising on designs from filing strategy to infringement.

Main specialisms
With a background in physics, Chris has specialised his patent work mainly in the mechanical and optical fields, working particularly closely with clients in industrial engineering and authentication. Chris can point to strong experience in:

• micro-optics

• plasmonics
• printing
• electrochemical processes
• electrical components

Chris has worked with clients of varying sizes, from individual inventors and small businesses up to medium-sized enterprises and large, multinational corporations. Notable clients include a multinational company that manufactures food packing machinery holding a 70% market share in multi-head weighers, one of the world’s largest toy companies, and a British company at the forefront of global currency and authentication solutions.

Interests
In his spare time, Chris enjoys photography and cooking, and he is also an avid fan of Formula 1.
