Mark graduated from the University of Cambridge with an Honours Degree in Natural Sciences (Physics).
Mark joined GJE in 2009 as a trainee and qualified as a European patent attorney in 2013 and as a UK patent attorney in 2014.
Mark is a Chartered & European Patent Attorney in the IT & Engineering team. He works with clients in all areas of patent practice including drafting and prosecuting patent applications, handling oppositions and appeals at the EPO, and opinion work.
Mark has experience in a variety of fields within the physics and engineering sectors in particular. His main areas of specialism include:
• document security
• positioning systems
• particle physics
• computer-implemented inventions.
Mark provides advice on other IP matters including registered design protection and also has experience in litigation proceedings before the IPEC.
Mark works with a wide range of clients ranging from multinational companies to individual inventors. He enjoys learning about clients’ new ideas and technologies, and how protecting these fits in to the overall business goals.
Outside of work, Mark is a keen sportsman, and in 2013 GJE granted him a sabbatical to train full-time with the Great Britain Rowing Team. Mark went on to represent Great Britain at the 2016 Olympic Games in the Lightweight Men’s Four. Now retired from international rowing, Mark is a keen cyclist.
