Want to find out what it’s really like to work here? Julie Pearce, Secretarial Team Coordinator, comments on working life at GJE.
“I work as a secretary for three busy fee earners within the patent department. I also have a role within the secretarial team which enables me to be more involved in decisions within the support team as well as ensuring that work is covered within the department when planned or unplanned absences occur.
I’ve been at GJE for over a decade now and it’s completely different from when I first started. It has evolved a lot and we now have various software programs in place to enable us to perform our jobs more efficiently.
The training has also improved over the years with lots of things in place to help new starters, from onboarding programmes right through to the team of people that help with ongoing training and development. Everyone works together in the team to help each other. This is often shown from positive comments from fee earners and the support teams.
I completed the CIPA administrator course a few years ago when it was done in-house. Our lecturers, all of which were fee earners and managers of GJE, were extremely helpful and dedicated in helping us throughout our course.
The team at GJE is very supportive and a pleasure to work alongside. Everyone likes to help each other and we often have conversations about work that we may be unsure of and someone is always willing to help you find the answer.
There are also opportunities to branch outside of your day to day role. A number of years ago I was involved with organising a charity event at GJE to help raise money for a cause that was close to the heart of another secretary at GJE. She led the event and I assisted with helping to plan this event which everyone attended and enjoyed. We organised a game of bingo, quizzes and competitions which were well received by all staff.
The people at GJE are friendly and whilst we are hardworking, we do get to have some fun too. We have a social committee that is very dedicated in making sure our calendars are filled with events such as themed lunches, quizzes, and exciting summer and Christmas events. A bit of fancy dress is also sometimes added in for extra fun.”
